IMG_2988The steering commitee of the Somerset West Business Improvement District (SWBID) initiative appointed Geocentric to lead them through the estanlishment process.  Geocentric developed the entire establishment process for the SWBID and the complete application for the SWBID was submitted to the City of Cape Town on 30 Spetember 2014.

The SWBID aims to create a safer and cleaner environment for all by providing ‘top up’ services to those provided by the City of Cape Town (CoCT).   If the application is successful the SWBID will be in effect from 1 July 2015.

After months of hard work to gain support and submit an application to the City of Cape Town for establishment, the Salt River Business Improvement District (SRBID) took its first few steps on Monday 1 September 2014. The City of Cape Town approved the SRBID application on the 29th of May 2014. Given this approval the SRBID had to comply with a number of administrative requirements in order to become operational.

The SRBID Vision

The vision of the SRBID is to establish and maintain a safe, clean, well-managed CBD area that attracts and retains business investment and attractive retail opportunities.

The SRBID Mission

It is the mission of the SRBID to create an inviting and safe business district attractive and safe for visitors and shoppers alike.

The full operational deployment of the SRBID includes a dedicated full time BID manager, a public safety deployment of foot patrollers and patrol vehicles and an urban maintenance group that will perform additional cleaning and urban maintenance tasks in the SRBID area.  The Salt River Improvement District Board appointed Geocentric to manage the SRBID. The Geocentric Manager appointed to manage the area is Melvin Myburgh.

The GCID Board appointed Geocentric to manage the GCID. The Geocentric Manager appointed to the GCID is Hannes Bronkhorst.  Geocentric has been involved in the establishment of CID’s for over 12 years, including the establishment of the Glosderry CID.

It is the mission of the GCID to create an accessible and inviting area attractive and safe for workers, visitors and clients alike.

Geocentric recently completed work for Urban Agents on a website that includes an interactive map of all their featured projects. The new site will be launched in the near future.

Urban Agents is network of 254 grassroots projects based within the Cape Town metropolitan area, all of which entered the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award 2012. A small virtual project with big dreams, Urban Agents encourages citizens to take responsibility for the cities they live in, and to reimagine and reshape them through collaborative action.

Geocentric was appointed as the management company for the Maitland City Improvement District (Maitcid) in October 2012.  Geocentric took over the management of the Maitcid and made vast improvements to the management of the area in a very short time as supported by complimented from city officials, politicians, property owners and the general public on how much the area have changed since we took over the management of the area.

As part of our new management plan Geocentric planned and executed various SAPS and law enforcement operations to re-establish the rule of law and get the public to respect the rules and regulations of society, including laws and by-laws in every respect. In addition, the deployment and activates of the public safety patrols were redesigned, and patrol officers were issues with new high-visibility uniforms.

In support of the urban management challenges of the area, Geocentric redesigned the entire urban cleaning process for the area and re-established positive working relationships with the various City of Cape Town officials and line departments.

This process was followed by efforts to survey, photograph, report and monitor urban maintenance defects throughout the area resulting in numerous issues being resolved in a very short time.

Recently Geocentric launched a new website for the Maitcid (www.maitcid.co.za) and also launched and electronic newsletter for the Maitcid which will be sent to all the property and business stakeholders in the area.

Geocentric also launched the Social Work Action Team in January 2013.  This is a project that provides work to previously homeless and destitute people found living on the streets of Maitland.
